How you can get involved?

Transporting Our Kiln

We need assistance moving our BioChar kiln processor to different locations.

- This requires a licence and a toe bar to drive with a trailer to various lands in our region.

- This usually takes around one hour depending on the location of the property.

- Movement of the kiln can occur once in two weeks.

Your help will make sure our kiln reaches those who need it!

Delivering feedstock

Our goal at Sierra Pretta is to make BioChar production accessible for everyone.

One idea to make this happen was to have feedstock delivered to the land where we book our kilns.

If you have the means to transport feedstock (organic materials) to people’s land please reach out!

Wherever possible we ask that people delivery their own feedstock, your help would be helping those who do not have the means.

Setting UP THE KILN

Our first kiln prototype takes about one hour to set up on a community members land to ensure safety and stability.

We are currently streamlining this process to make it much quicker!

Your assistance here will help us get burning faster, ensuring we can meet the demands of our community.

Assisting in the Burn Process

The burn process takes between 3-4 hours and requires regular feeding of the kiln with organic material (feedstock). Volunteers can:

- Help manage the feedstock application.

- Support the team during the burn.

Safety gear and snacks will be provided, so all you need to bring is your enthusiasm!

Media & Content Creation

Have a passion for media production?

- Assist with editing video footage of our process to create educational content.

- Voice recording and mastering, do you have a voice for narration or skills in audio production?

- Capturing footage of the process, if you enjoy working behind the camera, we’d love your help filming the different stages of our project.

Graphic design

Are you a creative mind with a knack for design? Help bring our project to life visually.

- Work with our team to develop eye-catching designs for our website, social media platforms.

- Create engaging and informative flyers that educate the public about BioChar and its many uses .

- Design posters and brochures, to promote BioChar sales to farmers and gardeners.

BioChar SAles

Our main focus is getting BioChar in the ground and to do this we need funding. BioChar sales are one way we fund our project.

- Introduce BioChar to friends and family or colleagues, who own farms and land, to the benefits of BioChar.

- Reaching out to local businesses and individuals who might benefit from BioChar.

Sharing our project

Help spread the message about Sierra Preta and our mission to improve soil health through BioChar.

Whether you’re active on social media, part of a local community group, or simply have a wide network, a great way to get involved is helping us reach more people.

By sharing our content and telling others about the work we do, you can help us grow movement and further our impact.

Electronic Development

We’re looking for volunteers to help with developing a data box for our operations:

- We need assistance with micro-controller development, using Arduino or similar platforms, to monitor and collect data during the burn process.

- Help us with coding to track important metrics such as kiln temperature, feedstock levels, and burn efficiency.
WHAT WE OFFER
